The magazine's 5,000-copy special edition print run, which honours Suntory BOSS Coffee's 31 years of craftsmanship, delves into a variety of craft styles, including food fermentation, punk puppeteers, and breaking in ballerina shoes. The physical publication, dubbed "The Crafted Issue," provides Gen Z readers with the authentic VICE experience through stories authored by the VICE AU/NZ editorial team and photography by Oliver Wensing, Seiya Taguchi, and Sly Morikawa.

Our amazing stylist, Yuta was featured in this issue. Interviewed by Vice, Yuta said he discovered his personal style through experience, working in different country or city and listening to the clients and what they wanted, he tried all kinds of styles in diverse hairdressing cultures and found what he truly enjoyed.

He also shared the process that follows his craft, starting with consultation to understand the client’s hair type, preferences, lifestyle and how they wear their hair. After that, he dry cuts the clients hair (as most of our stylist does in our salon) because it shows how the hair naturally moves and how the clients usually wear it. He stated that he wants to create an excellent shape and blend the hairstyle without washing and styling. After that, he washes the hair and style it to ensure the client’s satisfaction.

“ I don’t think there are right hairstyles or wrong hairstyles. I feel like everyone should try what they want. My job is to fit the hairstyle to the client. I wouldn’t say, ‘Don’t try that style because of your face shape or hair texture.’ I would change the hairstyle slightly to fit their face and hair texture.

My hairstyles are inspired by the concept of Japanese philosophy: beauty within simplicity and imperfection. I believe there's a unique elegance in embracing each individual's natural beauty. “

Yuta has experienced working in Tokyo, Toronto, New York and now with USFIN at Sydney. He said that he wouldn’t have had this much experience if he stayed in Tokyo, through his experiences, what he learned the most it techniques for all hair types. With the ever changing nature of trends, Yuta said he do feel challenged to come up with fresh takes and techniques. But he finds that its the most important challenge to grow his skills and sense “Consistency is boring “

“ Honestly, the cities themselves don’t matter too much. It depends on what kind of vibes the hair salons have. But I use all the techniques here in Sydney now. Sydney's culture, compared to other cities, is more laid back and relaxed. I tend to make the hair more effortless because not so many people style their own hair daily. I try to make their hair look good when they come from the ocean. “

We are so proud and happy to see our stylist Yuta getting the recognition he deserved! Watching him grow throughout his 4 years with us is a pleasure and we can’t wait to see what’s next in store for him and USFIN Atelier !
